New Butterflies to photograph - and try out more UV Photography
Moving into ultraviolet film I found a camera online under £40 and so I began filming in ultraviolet. I use my garden to get started with it and local flowers and wildlife. I then went to my main reserve Press butterfly reserve and shot in Woodlands as the weather was pretty bad that day there’s no sound with the camera but that’s fine. I plan to go back and record sound when I have a quiet day as it was raining and I had two dogs with me.
I’m happy with the footage to me. It feels like a first draft of images for my installation, which I plan to do in the spring 27. Working alongside my brother Laurie he has a degree in animation and it is helping me with looking at designing the 3-D installation that I would like next year.
I am hoping to make an installation that will show a small bit of how Butterflies see the world translated into human colours and shape shapes.

From this experiment, I have learnt that;
Tripod I need a tripod that is smoother than mine which is Very Old and maybe need some grease but it wasn’t giving me a nice flow with the camera.
Having a control over the lenses would be great as this is a long-distance camera only can only do distance ultraviolet and I’m quite interested in doing close-up work with flowers and butterflies.
 Long-term if this is something I’m interested in continuing with I would buy a converted SLR camera so I could take Christmas shots and have more control in the final exposure and size of the image. I have researched this and have seen a few cameras I may look into getting.
 I plan to detail my immersive installation idea here when I have more detail sketches currently have a hand drawings in my notebook reference green flowers.

Infrared image research
Looking into multispectral imagery I managed to get a camera which had ultraviolet and infrared settings. This is the camera that I used to video the forest in the reserve at Prestbury reserve. Looking at the images I again I’m happy with the idea of structure and not so much detail as a colour image would give I’m looking at the different light and patterns that we can see which would be much more similar to an insect or a butterfly specifically. After researching this subject they see very scattered light and not sharp detail like humans do so I feel that this way of photographing nature and the reserve where the Butterflies will live would be suitable for my ideas which constitute habitat of butterflies looking at changing habitat and the effect of global warming and weather change and floor and foreigner in the areas that they are thriving or not thriving.
I believe ultraviolet and infrared Photography will give me a different take dimension on works that I plan to create and have started to already.
I have worked in the dark room with some 645 negatives that I took out the reserve using infrared film. I was very happy with the images looking at my settings by using a separate digital camera on the Day and Long exposures these images give me a really good stars. I feel to the collection of images I plan to make for my final project.
Working in the dark room has been very informative interesting although very time-consuming. I have enjoyed the anaesthetic type of working and seeing images being created. I did however accidentally use paper that would be more suitable for A professional dark Room experience. I am starting fresh after not developing much for awhile although I have always kept my finger in within my own home dark room had issues with my enlarger so haven’t used it for one year. But doing Media format the images that are crisp are really have another dimension that digital I don’t feel can always capture.
Although expensive I do plan to continue with my analog work.
